Former BBC Senior Director Inspires Year 10 Students
Recently, the Upper Academy was delighted to welcome Richard Murrell, who spent 40 years working for the BBC in television and radio production, including many years as a Senior Director at BBC News.
Drawing on his extensive experience from a career that has taken him around the world, Richard spoke to our Year 10 students about the many roles and responsibilities involved in producing the news. From camera angles and directing live broadcasts to cues, newsroom operations and even riot training, students gained a fascinating insight into what happens behind the scenes of television news.
The session highlighted the teamwork, planning and technical expertise required to bring news programmes to our screens and gave students a greater appreciation of the wide range of careers available within the media industry.
The visit formed part of the academy's ongoing commitment to providing students with meaningful careers education and opportunities to learn from experienced industry professionals.
