MFL Careers Talk Inspires Year 10 & 11

Students discover how language skills can open global career opportunities.
As part of our ongoing drive to raise the profile of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), Year 10 and 11 recently attended an inspiring careers talk delivered by David Binns, Director of Sanako UK.
David spoke about the practical benefits of studying languages and the wide range of career opportunities that language skills can unlock. He explained that languages are not only important for teaching and translation but are also highly valued across a variety of professions including business, law, medicine, engineering, technology and international relations.
He also emphasised that learning a language helps students develop transferable skills such as communication, problem solving, cultural awareness and adaptability; all of which are qualities employers look for. David underlined how having language skills can help young people stand out in applications and interviews, support career progression, and open doors to opportunities around the world.
Students gave very positive feedback following the session, with many sharing that they now have a clearer understanding of how languages can play an important role in their future aspirations.
“I loved hearing about how languages can actually help you get a job. I never really knew what taking a language meant for GCSE, but now I do. David was really helpful in explaining what we need to know.” Gracie-Mae.M – Year 10
“I found the language assembly really interesting and I want to learn more about how languages can help my future, as well as what I can do to support my GCSE language studies.” Kaci.C – Year 10
