Upper Academy Officially Recognised as a CPR Smart School

We are delighted to announce that the Basildon Upper Academy has officially been recognised as a ‘CPR Smart School’, following the successful introduction and expansion of our CPR training programme.

The school has received a CPR Smart School plaque and accreditation, recognising our commitment to ensuring students have the knowledge and confidence to perform CPR and potentially save a life in an emergency.

The journey began last school year, when a group of our Sixth Form students worked with Essex and Herts Air Ambulance to become CPR Smart Champions. The students received specialist training and then took on the important role of sharing their knowledge with others across the Upper Academy.

This school year, the programme has expanded, with more Sixth Form students and students in Year 11 receiving CPR training from our Sixth Form CPR Smart Champions. This student-led approach has enabled more young people to develop this important lifesaving skill while giving our CPR Smart Champions the opportunity to pass on their knowledge to their peers.

We are incredibly proud of the students who have embraced their role as CPR Smart Champions and helped to make CPR training accessible to more members of our school community.

“We found the CPR training really useful because it has taught us an important skill that could one day help us save someone’s life.” Alvira.K and Yani.F – Year 13

“I really enjoyed the training, especially using the song Smooth Criminal to help keep the right rhythm when performing resuscitation on Annie.” Hayden.S – Year 11
