Exploring Futures at the Basildon Skills Show

Students gain valuable insight into future careers and opportunities.

Year 11 and Sixth Form students recently attended the Basildon Skills Show, a careers event designed to inspire young people as they start planning their next steps. The show gave students the chance to explore a wide variety of pathways including apprenticeships, training programmes and higher education opportunities.

The event featured stalls from a range of organisations such as Basildon Borough Council, C2C, Leonardo, Mid and South Essex Health and Care Academy, Immervox Cyber Security, Southend Football Club, Taylor Woodrow and the University of Essex.

As well as speaking with exhibitors, students had the opportunity to take part in interactive activities, including hands-on experiences such as bricklaying, giving them a real insight into different trades and careers.

“There was plenty of time to chat with the people on the stalls. They all knew their stuff and gave good advice. Giving out souvenirs was also a nice touch.” Ryan.C – Year 11

“The representatives on each stall were very helpful and explained things clearly. It helped me a lot and I might even change my career path to one of the colleges that was represented at the show. I am very happy and now looking forward to attending.” Alimat.B – Year 11

“The Skills Show was very helpful. I now have more knowledge about the kind of future I want after my GCSEs, and I think it gave me more opportunities to explore the life I am hoping for after school.” Timi.M – Year 11

“The event was useful for me as it gave me an insight into working life after I finish school. I took the opportunity to talk to different people about my career, and it really helped me decide which job suits me. Thank you.” Fakeha.H – Year 11
