There is a growing awareness in education that the development of pupils’ personal development skills has significant long-term impact on academic outcomes, long-term success and happiness. The Basildon Academies are committed to supporting the personal development of pupils and will use its involvement with the award to further strengthen this.  

While academic success is one of our aims in school, preparing young people for life in an increasingly complex world, so that they can manage their lives, understand their responsibilities towards themselves and others and make a positive contribution to society are also key aims which will sustain them in the long term. 

The Excellence in Pupil Development Award offers a structured framework to evaluate and enrich our pastoral curriculum. It supports us in developing student’s personal attributes and attitudes, such as self-confidence, resilience and self-discipline. With a focus on involving local and national organisations, this award will support our ethos of preparing our pupils for life in modern Britain.
